The Beach at Balnakeil

This is Balnakeil Beach in the far north west of Scotland.

This is looking almost due west, towards Cape Wrath. Cape Wrath is a Ministry of Defence live firing range, and while we were there we heard a number of bombs explode, dropped from jets onto An Garbheilan (Garvie Island). Ships also fire at the island from 12 miles offshore, which would be quite the sight, but there weren't any to be seen the day we were there.

Apparently the firing range is also an RSPB bird reserve.
