A thousand tiny stars

This is Grangemouth oil refinery. I thought I'd get arrested as a terrorist for taking pictures.

I need to go back with my tripod and try and take more pictures of these wonderful shining lights.

  • They look like some kind of futuristic palace. A refinery, right? I've always wanted to shoot one but I think the nearest ones are in Houston.

  • Yeah, that's right, Dustin. Grangemouth refinery is one of Scotland's biggest (if not the biggest). It's about 15 miles north west of Edinburgh.
It was quite bizarre - I was able to get really quite close to the facility itself. I really thought I was going to get arrested for trespassing, and was very surprised that they didn't have guards/dogs/surveillance cameras to chase me out.
When I was shooting these shots, it felt strangely like taking pictures in Vegas, a place I've visted a couple of times; bright lights on big buildings in the middle of nowhere.
